A 3-2 victory at Priory Lane over Eastleigh lifts Borough ahead of Lewes for the first time since November.
More importantly, in a league finish which may come down to goal difference, Borough have scored two more goals than their East Sussex rivals.
Thirteen games are still to be played to decide who wins the league but it looks more than certain that the title will be won by either Lewes or Borough.
The Borough manager was pleased with his sides display in front of a crowd of 752 but said there were times when he was unsure if they would hold on for an important win.
He said, "It was a hard fought win tonight. It maybe shouldn't have been so after going three-nil up, but we went three-nil up early and I don't think Eastleigh were ever going to lye down for us.
"They certainly worked hard and threw bodies forward and we had to dig in deep."
